Job description

<p><strong>Purpose</strong><br> AbbVie's Product Development Science &amp; Technology group is seeking a Scientist level Process Chemist to conduct late-stage chemical process development, support projects from late clinical development through commercialization and throughout the product lifecycle.&#xa0; The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated scientist, with a proven track record of accomplishment in the field of organic synthesis, to work in a multi-functional team environment.</p><ul><li>The candidate will be responsible for developing organic chemistry processes and executing on scale to provide practical access to potential therapies, which may include small molecules and/or antibody drug conjugates.</li><li>The candidate will support the development and oversight of process chemistry and manufacturing controls at commercial sites.</li><li>The position involves multi-disciplinary interactions with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional collaborators involved in bringing therapies to market.&#xa0;</li></ul><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Perform independent experimentation to generate reliable and consistent data.</li><li>Use data analysis to guide future work.</li><li>Troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation.</li><li>Learn and understand new experimental techniques.</li><li>Ability to impact projects through lab and manufacturing plant-based activities.</li><li>Provide support to manufacturing facilities during commercial production</li><li>Present technical topics to cross-functional stakeholders</li><li>Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.</li></ul> <ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent education, with typically 5 years&#xa0;of experience, or Master’s Degree or equivalent education with typically two years of experience.&#xa0;</li><li>A range of functional expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry, compound purification, spectral analysis and interpretation.</li><li>An ability to problem solve using lab and literature-based resources.</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li></ul><p><strong>Key Leadership Competencies</strong>:</p><ul><li>Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.</li><li>Learns fast, understands key objectives, and can change course quickly where indicated.</li><li>Raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo.</li><li>Creates a learning environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement.</li><li>Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation, and manages the transition from innovation to implementation.</li><li>Adheres to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, quality, and appropriate handling of materials.</li></ul> <p>​Applicable only to applicants applying to a position in any location with pay disclosure requirements under state or&#xa0;local law:&#xa0;​</p><ul><li>The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company&#xa0;believes in&#xa0;good faith it will pay for this role at the&#xa0;time&#xa0;of&#xa0;this posting based on the job grade for this position.&#xa0;Individual&#xa0;compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic&#xa0;location,&#xa0;and&#xa0;we&#xa0;may&#xa0;ultimately&#xa0;pay&#xa0;more or less than the posted range.
