<p><strong>Position Summary</strong></p><p>The Product Safety Engineer, Renewable Energy performs testing and evaluation on a variety of products for conformance to U.S., Canadian and other international product safety standards, writes reports and communicates with clients. This is a full training role for a recent graduate or early-career engineer: under the guidance of a more senior engineer, this role builds a foundation in core product safety testing while training toward supporting the lab's renewable energy program, including inverters, battery energy storage systems and EV equipment.</p><p><strong>Employee Standards</strong></p><ul><li>Support department objectives and company goals.</li><li>Be a team player.</li><li>Sustain a positive, enthusiastic and professional attitude.</li><li>Accommodate requests with a can do, let me see what I can do attitude.</li><li>Adhere to manager directives.</li><li>Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.</li><li>Arrive on time, properly dressed and prepared to work.</li><li>Perform all duties in a timely, accurate, honest and professional manner.</li><li>Communicate with customers professionally and in accordance with customer service standards, while maintaining confidentiality.</li><li>Be receptive to and accepting of guidance from others.</li><li>Ability to deal with difficult people and problems.</li><li>Ability to multi task and prioritize assignments.</li><li>Travel as needed, up to 15%.</li></ul><p><strong>Tasks/Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards for the equipment under test (EUT).</li><li>Validate project scope and sample applicability.</li><li>Set up and operate the EUT; perform and document simple repairs on the EUT as needed.</li><li>Perform testing of products in accordance with applicable standards.</li><li>Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR), both on and off site, as experience grows.</li><li>Develop, set up and follow established test plans.</li><li>Compile test results during construction review and testing. Compile data and product description and prepare the final report using the established report shell. Submit the report to a reviewer for approval.</li><li>Communicate project status and test results to clients, sales personnel and management throughout testing.</li><li>Provide ongoing support to clients as needed.</li><li>Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document and recommend engineering judgments.</li><li>Cross train on renewable energy testing disciplines as the program develops, working alongside the Senior Product Safety Engineer, Renewable Energy team.</li><li>Perform other work as required.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.</li><li>0 to 2 years of experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.</li><li>Coursework, project experience or general interest in power electronics or renewable energy systems is a plus.</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office.</li><li>Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license and a clean driving record.</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.</li><li>Excellent organizational and time management skills.</li><li>Excellent customer service skills.</li><li>Self motivated and able to work independently in a fast paced, multi tasking environment.</li><li>Ability to travel as business needs dictate, up to 15%.</li></ul><p><strong>Physical Demands</strong></p><ul><li>Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.</li><li>Able to lift up to 30 pounds.</li><li>Physical dexterity and mobility to travel by car and airplane and to perform all functions inherent to the position.</li><li>Able to work with hand tools and small power tools.</li></ul>
