Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with at least ten years of experience for our DC Metro office. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity within a dynamic and progressive firm. The successful individual will work closely with our business development team and other discipline leaders in developing technical proposals and will take a proactive role in marketing/business development. This role provides the opportunity to help build and mentor a dedicated team of engineering professionals within a collaborative multidiscipline office. This candidate will be working directly with clients providing consulting services.The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and Industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction, utility infrastructure, roadways, erosion control measures and coordinating multifaceted projects.  We are seeking innovative, results-oriented individuals who value high standards of performance and collaborative teamwork.

Essential Engineering Skills and Functions:<ul><li>Perform the following functions:<ul><li>structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial & industrial projects</li><li>Design of steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and Industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction. </li><li>Design experience with light gage steel and timber is a plus</li><li>Strong ability to interpret technical drawings</li><li>Lead design team efforts</li><li>Manage project team for budget and schedule control</li><li>Develop fee and qualification-based proposals</li></ul></li><li>Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.</li><li>Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.</li><li>Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities.</li><li>Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint software preferred. Must understand database concepts. Working knowledge of marketing databases and proposal resources files.</li><li>Conduct marketing/business development activities</li><li>Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.</li><li>Ability to travel</li><li>Work closely with other Coffman offices, such as Raleigh, Atlanta structural groups to complete projects and tasks.</li></ul>Education/Experience/Qualifications<ul><li>B.S. degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program required.</li><li>Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE).</li><li>minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience.</li><li>Experience with computer software programs and analysis systems (such as RISA, AutoCAD, Revit, RamSS, Etabs, Enercalc, etc.).</li><li>Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and time management skills.</li><li>Project Management experience and/or certifications</li><li>Desire to lead inter-disciplinary projects and project teams</li><li>Local AHJ experience and relationships is a plus</li><li>Active local industry involvement is a plus</li></ul>Compensation and Benefits<ul><li>Approximate Base Salary – 100K-150k</li><li>Salary will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.</li><li>Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate</li><li>Competitive end-of-year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance</li><li>Hybrid Work Schedule (subject to change)</li><li>401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching for 9% Employee Contribution</li></ul>This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
