Senior Mechanical Plant Design Engineer
About this role
The opportunity
As a Senior Mechanical Plant Design Engineer within Plant mechanical, you will work in a collaborative engineering environment where problem‑solving, learning, and sound technical judgement are key. Within Plant Engineering, this role covers several disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural engineering, with a primary focus on mechanical design. Knowledge of other engineering areas is an advantage. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to HVDC station design through engineering design, planning, risk assessments, resource coordination, and technical project execution.
You will be supported by a strong multidisciplinary team and encouraged to take responsibility while continuously developing your technical and professional skills.
“In this position, you’ll work with complex and interesting challenges, collaborate closely across disciplines, and contribute to solutions that make a real impact. You are never alone — teamwork and knowledge sharing are fundamental to how we succeed.” — Lars‑Ove Mellberg, Mechanical Plant Design Manager
This role is based in Ludvika or Västerås, Sweden.
How you’ll make an impact
Lead mechanical plant design activities for complex HVDC projects, ensuring high-quality multidisciplinary engineering coordination. Develop robust and cost-effective technical solutions in line with customer requirements, contracts, budgets, and schedules. Drive engineering deliverables within your area of expertise and provide technical support during testing, installation, and commissioning. Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and risk mitigation practices throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare work plans, cost estimates, and engineering schedules, and support scope and budget reviews. Collaborate closely with project teams, tender teams, customers, contractors, authorities, and supply chain partners. Independently manage technical activities, solve complex engineering challenges, and support project execution with limited supervision. Mentor and review the work of junior engineers while contributing to technical development and best practices within the team.
