Claims Team Lead - General Liability
About this role
About the Role
As a Team Lead for General Liability Claims, you lead claims handling across a diverse commercial GL book — spanning multiple industries and loss types. Your scope covers both the General Team (Unrepresented claims) and the Severity/Litigation Team (Attorney Represented and Litigated claims across every dollar tier), so you need to be equally comfortable coaching high-volume adjusters and reviewing litigation strategy on complex files.
A meaningful part of this role is disposition discipline: driving aged inventory to a decision — settle, deny, close, MMI, or coverage — rather than letting files sit touched but undecided. You'll run the weekly rhythm that keeps the aged tail shrinking instead of growing.
Who You Are
• A claims professional with a track record in high-exposure commercial general liability claims across a range of industries and loss types • A strong leader with litigation management experience who can review defense strategy and reserve positioning • Tech-oriented and excited about using analytics to separate genuine hygiene issues from real disposition gaps • Curious — you want the whole story on a legacy claim before deciding whether it needs a new strategy or just a decision • Anti-status quo — when inventory drifts, you act on it rather than accepting it as the norm • Comfortable holding both a strategic, portfolio-level view and the detail of an individual complex file
What You'll Do
• Lead and coach adjusters across the General Team and Severity/Litigation Team • Own the weekly aged-inventory disposition review — tracking claims open past 120, 180, and 365 days to a defined decision rather than continued activity • Review litigation strategy, defense counsel coordination, and reserve adequacy on Severity/Litigation Team files • Manage account-based routing exceptions (ASM, QBE Rollover, excess lines) that fall outside standard litigation-status routing • Align adjuster caseload targets to verified account-code inventory, adjusting as staffing or volume changes • Serve as escalation SME for coverage questions and complex claim strategy • Prepare and present claims reports, aged-inventory metrics, and loss trends to clients and leadership • Increased reserve and settlement authority, with direct involvement in high-exposure file reviews
Qualifications
• 7+ years of insurance claims experience in high-exposure commercial general liability claims across varied industries and loss types • Active adjuster license required: resident state license if available, otherwise a Designated Home State (DHS) license • 2+ years of leadership experience, with a preference for experience managing in a remote environment • Demonstrated litigation management experience, including defense counsel oversight and settlement negotiation • Comfortable using technology and analytics to run a disposition-focused aged-inventory process
