Help create a path from crisis to stability. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Social Worker to join our Safe Harbor team within the Department of Detention and Corrections. Pinellas Safe Harbor serves as both an emergency homeless shelter and a jail diversion program, providing a safe environment and access to services for individuals experiencing homelessness, including those involved in or re-entering the community from the criminal justice system. In this role, you will provide crisis intervention, assessments, counseling, case management, referrals, and supportive services designed to address individual needs, reduce barriers, and help residents work toward stability and self-sufficiency.
The ideal candidate is an adaptable and highly professional social work practitioner who can establish rapport with individuals facing complex behavioral, mental health, substance use, housing, and social challenges. They exercise sound judgment, remain composed during crisis situations, and are skilled at connecting individuals with appropriate resources and services. The successful candidate is resourceful, nonjudgmental, and comfortable collaborating with law enforcement personnel, treatment providers, community organizations, and other social service partners to coordinate care and support positive outcomes.

Starting Salary: $30.64/hour
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM–5:30 PM), either Monday–Thursday (Friday–Sunday off) or Tuesday–Friday (Saturday–Monday off).
The background investigation process may take up to 6 weeks depending upon the complexity of the applicant's background and position for which they've applied.
Under the general direction of an Assistant Social Worker Supervisor, within the Department of Detention and Corrections, Support Services Division Program Services Supervisor or the Safe Harbor Assistant Social Worker Supervisor, performs professional social work activities to include crisis intervention, mental health assessment and treatment through linkage with pertinent referral agencies and programs; and other supportive services as they arise, to the entire inmate population within the Department of Detention and Corrections or persons experiencing homelessness. Job duties are based on assignment. Objectives are to mitigate tension, improve and promote pro-social attitudes, assist individuals toward positive integration back into the community, and coordinate services towards self-sufficiency. The member exercises independent judgment and situational awareness after receiving written or oral instructions as to the nature of the work. Work is reviewed through observation and results obtained.
