Aircraft Design Engineer - Advanced Concepts
About this role
At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.
As an Aircraft Design Engineer on the Advanced Systems team, you will develop integrated aircraft configurations and physical arrangements for new aircraft concepts. You will translate aircraft-level requirements and trade decisions into practical geometry, packaging, installations, and interfaces across structures, propulsion, systems, manufacturing, operations, and test. You will need to understand the aircraft at an architecture level to balance performance, weight, manufacturability, maintainability, and certification constraints as concepts mature. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
• Develop aircraft concepts, general arrangements, and integrated 3D configuration layouts • Translate aircraft requirements and trade outcomes into practical geometry, packaging, and installations • Coordinate physical integration across structures, propulsion, systems, equipment, manufacturing, operations, and test • Define and maintain aircraft-level envelopes, zones, clearances, and physical interfaces • Evaluate access, routing, maintainability, manufacturability, ground handling, and servicing constraints • Conduct configuration and packaging trades; document assumptions, results, and recommendations • Maintain controlled aircraft master geometry and configuration data in 3DX • Mature selected configurations through preliminary design, prototype build, ground test, and flight test
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field • 5+ years of aircraft, vehicle, or complex hardware design experience • Experience developing aircraft configurations, installations, packaging, or physical integration • Strong 3D CAD and large-assembly experience, including spatial interfaces and configuration control • Working knowledge of aircraft structures, propulsion and systems installations, manufacturing, and maintenance constraints • Experience preparing multidisciplinary trade studies and design-review material • Ability to communicate design intent through layouts, interface definitions, and technical documentation • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Must be a US Person to be considered for the role
