How will you contribute?
• Within European collaborative research and innovation projects, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is seeking a Research Engineer in Atmospheric-Pressure Plasma Deposition of Functional Coatings. Working with universities, research institutes, and industrial partners across Europe, you will help develop high-performance, multifunctional materials and surfaces for applications ranging from fluid-dynamic surfaces to textile finishing. Your mission and contributions are: • To conduct applied research work on atmospheric pressure plasma deposition of functional materials. • To optimise atmospheric-pressure plasma deposition processes for functional coatings (e.g. barrier, hydrophobic, antimicrobial, or protective layers) on textured, porous, or flexible substrates. • To scale up and transfer processes from laboratory to pilot level, including continuous (e.g. roll-to-roll) configurations, in close collaboration with industrial partners. • To characterize the deposited materials using various surface analytical techniques, together with functional performance testing adapted to project requirements. • To contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, publications, and presentations.

Education
A PhD (or equivalent experience) in materials science, plasma science, chemistry, or on textile science and technology, with a strong focus on finishing/functionalization.
Experience and skills
• 3 to 5 years of proven experience in an international R&D environment (public or private sector). • Demonstrated experience in atmospheric-pressure plasma deposition (e.g. DBD, plasma jets, plasma-enhanced CVD, plasma polymerisation, aerosol-assisted plasma deposition), including reactor setup, pilot or semi-pilot operation, and process implementation for functional thin films and coatings. • Ability to evaluate and optimise key process parameters, including power and frequency, gas composition and flow, precursor delivery (vapour or aerosol), electrode gap, and substrate temperature and speed. • Proven autonomy in surface characterization techniques, such as SEM, AFM, XPS, FTIR, ellipsometry, contact angle measurements, and functional performance testing. • Strong awareness of laboratory and process safety, including high-voltage and RF equipment, handling reactive precursors, and management of by-products. • You are committed to a strong data security and confidentiality, with experience in handling sensitive information according to consortium agreements. • You have ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced international consortium environment.
