How to use it
- Open the file and read Start here. It takes a minute and explains the colours.
- Add every job to Applications. One row per job, with the dropdowns for status, source and work mode. Paste the job link so you can find the description again.
- Log interviews and contacts as they happen. Use the same company and role as on Applications, so the interview counts there.
- Check the dashboard once a week. Delete the example rows once you have a few of your own.

Frequently asked questions
Is the job search tracker really free?
Yes. Download the file directly, without creating an account, entering your email, or buying a subscription.
What is included in the download?
Five tabs: Start here, Dashboard, Applications (room for 300 jobs), Interviews and Contacts (200 rows each), plus a Lists tab where you can change the dropdown options. The first rows of each tab are fictional examples, so the dashboard shows how it works from the start.
How does the dashboard work?
It counts what you enter on Applications and Interviews. Reply rate is the share of applications that got any answer, including rejections. Interview rate is the share that reached an interview. It also shows how many applications you sent each week against your goal, and which sources lead to interviews.
How do follow-up reminders work?
Enter a date in Follow up on. When it is today or overdue, it turns amber, unless the application is closed. An application that got no reply within 30 days turns grey, as a hint to mark it No response. The spreadsheet does not send emails or notifications.
Can I use this in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets. Formulas, dropdowns and highlights come along; charts can look slightly different than in Excel.
What is the Ghost score column for?
Before you apply, check a job with our free ghost job checker. It shows whether the job is still on the company's own careers page and gives it a score from 0 to 100. Note that score in the column to see which of your applications are worth the time.
Where is my application data stored?
In your own copy of the spreadsheet. The template does not send your entries to FindYourCareer. If you save it to a cloud drive, that service handles storage and sharing.
